Mesh Asset Tag (MAT)
Cubic Global Tracking Solutions developed Mesh technology for the United States Department of Defense, and it utilizes a wireless mesh network for logistic applications. Additionally with this configuration, Cubic Global Tracking Solutions’ 802.15.4 protocol provides superior ad hoc network formation (tags that talk to each other to pass information), security, power management and efficiency.
With Mesh Technology, wirelessly networked nodes allow data to “hop” from node to node until it reaches a data gateway. The benefit of this type of network is the system’s dynamic ad-hoc reconfiguration capability, which allows it to communicate around broken or blocked paths. Ultimately, a Fixed Mesh Gateway or a Mobile Mesh Gateway captures the data, and the data is encrypted and sent to our Device Management Center (DMC), where it is authenticated, decrypted and processed. Next, the DMC communicates event reports or customized reports to your organization through secure web applications, API, XML data feed, SMS text messages, and e-mail.
Advantages to Using Mesh
- Reduced infrastructure costs and a self-healing network, due to the fact less infrastructure is required to support the network since every device is a node/router.
- Secure two-way data communication built into the network because all information is encrypted to ensure privacy from being read or intercepted by unauthorized users.
- Tracking devices allow an organization to receive information on global positioning through GPS, while sensors monitor temperature, humidity, shock, acceleration, light and door state.
- Long and predictable battery life of devices, with two to three year operational battery life in the field.
