(0:03) Innovation can be very rewarding.
(0:13) I’m the chief innovation officer at Cubic Defense Applications.
(0:18) A successfully innovative organization is filled with passionate people, passionate people that know who their customer is and puts their customer at the center of all that they do.
(0:29) Companies that are innovative and are continuing to strive to do better have a different employee engagement. When you really understand the absolute customer needs and you are helping to solve customer pain points, you get excited about what you are doing. When you get up in the morning, you have a purpose. There’s a reason why you’re here and there is somebody’s problem that you are actually solving and when you do that, there’s a certain excitement, engagement and passion that comes through.
(0:56) That kind of passion drives very good relationships and it has that understanding of what the customer needs are. That understanding then drives good delivery, you start building a relationship. In that, everybody is delivering, so innovation in a successful organization shows up not just in the product delivery, it shows up across the board in all the functions and all the support organizations as well.
(1:24) Innovation is hard, it takes time, it takes leadership, it takes perseverance. Those people that are really committed to doing something different, they embrace that, but that’s not everybody, what you’ve got to do is also create the security and confidence in people that they can try something new, fail, learn from it and keep going. So there’s a lot of leadership that goes with innovation.
