The
Joint Readiness Training Center - Instrumentation
System (JRTC-IS),
located at Fort Polk, La, is the premier ground combat
training system for joint light forces and peacekeeping
training. Cubic developed and installed the instrumentation
system in 1997 and today provides critical mission
support for the mock battles.
The
Instrumentation System, called the JRTC-IS, collects
and records the actions, locations and simulated
weapons engagement results of up to 8,000 players
during mock battles.
The
JRTC-IS consists of sophisticated electronics,
computers and software. In the field, soldiers
and vehicles are instrumented with electronic player
units with GPS tracking devices and laser-based
weapon engagement systems. The player units collect
and transmit player information to a central facility
equipped with a sophisticated network of computers
to monitor and record the exercise.
In
addition, video and radio voice data are collected
in real time to allow the creation of AARs by analyst
at the central site. By linking to remote sites,
AARs can be prepared and conducted near the training
locations, providing timely feedback to battlefield
commands.
JRTC
is one of three U.S. Army Combat Training Centers
in the world. The others are National Training
Center (NTC) at Fort Irwin, Calif., and Combat
Maneuver Training Center (CMTC) at Hohenfels, Germany.
Located
on 198,000 acres of land that comprise Fort Polk,
LA., JRTC-IS was installed by Cubic in 1997. The
system was fully operational in January 1998, at
which time it was turned over to the U.S. Army
Simulation, Training and Instrumentation Training
Command.
