Cubic
Corporation Receives Contract for Air Force’s
Multi-Platform Common Data Link Program
SAN DIEGO,
Calif., March 10, 2003--Cubic Corporation (AMEX:CUB) announced
it has received a contract to supply a remote antenna system
for the U.S. Air Force’s next generation Multi-Platform
Common Data Link (MP-CDL) program. The MP-CDL is a cooperative
U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army program.
Under
the $3.1 million contract from L-3 Communications (NYSE:LLL),
Cubic is providing a remote high tech antenna system, comprised
of two Ku and X band antennas.
This data
link will be deployed on the Air Force’s and Army’s
new intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance programs.
The MP-CDL will be the first fully networked CDL the military
has deployed, with the capability to communicate from the
aircraft to as many as 30 ground stations at one time.
Cubic’s
system will be integrated with L3’s modem and delivered
to the Air Force’s Aero Systems Center at Wright-Patterson
AFB in Dayton, Ohio in March 2005.
“Cubic
is committed to staying ahead of the technology curve,”
said Cubic President and CEO Walter J. Zable. “Cubic
is winning new business and strategically significant contracts
in the growing space of network centric warfare.”
“Cubic
has enjoyed a solid reputation for its jam-proof surveillance
and control data link (SCDL) for the Joint STARS program.
We are happy to be part of this ‘next generation’
CDL program,” said Rick Lober, Senior VP of Cubic's
Communications Business Unit.
Data links
are used to transfer intelligence data–such as positions
of troops behind enemy lines– from surveillance aircraft
to analysts on the ground. The airborne MP-CDL can be used
to relay information from one aircraft to another or to ground
stations in the network.
The Cubic
Defense Applications group, one of Cubic's two major segments,
provides realistic combat training systems for military forces
as well as simulation, force modernization, educational services,
operations & maintenance and manufacturing services. The
group also supplies products and systems for C4ISR (Command,
Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance
& Reconnaissance) applications, search and rescue avionics
and radio communications for military and civil markets. The
corporation's other major segment, Cubic Transportation Systems,
designs and manufactures automatic fare collection systems
for public mass transit authorities.
