Cubic Increases Support of the U.S. Army
with a New Order for Its
Javelin Field Tactical Trainer
SAN
DIEGO, Calif. – October 7, 2004 -- Cubic Defense
Applications, the defense segment of Cubic Corporation
(AMEX: CUB), announced it has received a $6 million contract
award from Raytheon/Lockheed Martin Javelin Joint Venture
(the “Joint Venture”) for the production of
156 Javelin Field Tactical Trainers (FTT). This latest
award represents the fourth contract for Cubic's Simulation
Systems Division (SSD) for production of these Javelin
devices. Javelin
is the U.S. Army’s premier man-portable,
fire-and-forget anti-tank missile system. The Javelin FTT
is a MILES-compatible, shoulder launched, anti-tank guided
weapon trainer designed for both range and force-on-force
training. It incorporates a directed MILES laser system
with a tactical Command Launch Unit to provide cost- effective
training for U.S. Army Javelin gunners. Use of these training
devices is key to the Army’s tactical missile program,
allowing first time gunners to achieve a 90 percent successful
hit ratio when firing the tactical missile. Terry
Kohl, vice president and general manager of Cubic’s
Simulation Systems Division, said, “SSD is extremely
pleased to be providing FTT training devices for the Joint
Venture and the U.S. Army, particularly during this time
of heightened threats to our nation. Our history of providing
high quality, cost effective, on-time delivery of Javelin
training systems contributed to the company’s win
of this competitive program.” Cubic Defense Applications provides realistic combat training
systems for military forces, as well as mission support
services for training and exercises, modeling and simulation,
force modernization, leadership development, web-based
learning solutions, and operations and maintenance services.
The group also supplies products and systems for C4ISR
(Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence,
Surveillance and Reconnaissance) applications, search and
rescue avionics and radio communications for military and
civil markets. The corporation's other major segment, Cubic
Transportation Systems, designs and manufactures automatic
fare collection systems for public mass transit authorities.
