Cubic Receives $11 Million Northrop Grumman
Information Technology Contract
To Support First Air Force Western Air Defense Sector (WADS)
SAN DIEGO,
Calif. – Oct. 20, 2005 -- The defense segment of
Cubic Corporation (AMEX: CUB) has received a five-year,
$11 million dollar contract to assist
Northrop Grumman Information Technology with an important homeland defense
mission. Under the new contract, Cubic’s Operations Support Division,
part of Cubic Defense Applications, will provide a broad range of mission support
to the First Air Force’s Western Air Defense Sector (WADS) headquarters
at McChord Air Force Base in Washington state.
WADS
covers more than 60 percent of the nation’s
airspace west of the Mississippi River, including the Canadian
and Mexican borders, and has the job of keeping U.S. airspace
secure. WADS uses ground-based fixed and mobile radars, as
well as data-linked information from the E-3 AWACS aircraft
and U.S. Navy vessels, to detect, track and identify unknown
or threatening airborne objects near or within the Western
United States.
Cubic’s
support will include curriculum development and exercise
design for both live- and simulation-based
air
sovereignty training. Additional support and requirements
analysis will be provided on operating, maintaining and scheduling
C4 (Command, Control, Communications and Computers) and information
technology systems.
“This contract increases our business with First
Air Force and the Air National Guard, and provides an excellent
springboard to support Air Guard and Homeland Defense requirements
in all three Air Defense Sectors,” said Mike St. John,
Cubic program manager. “Cubic is currently assisting
Northrop Grumman Information Technology in providing training
and C4 operations analytical services at McChord Air Force
Base. Now our companies will play an expanded role that will
allow WADS to restore all headquarters support activities
to pre-9/11 levels. Since September 11, WADS Air Guard personnel
have been dedicated to 24/7 operations supporting the Homeland
Defense mission, with little time for support activities.”
Cubic’s
Operations Support Division is part of the Mission Support
Business Unit of Cubic Defense
Applications
(CDA). One of two major segments of Cubic Corporation, CDA
provides realistic combat training systems, mission support
and defense electronics. The corporation's other major segment,
Cubic Transportation Systems, designs and manufactures automatic
fare collection systems for public mass transit authorities.
