Cubic Delivers Next-Generation Electronic Warfare
Simulation System to the Royal Danish Air Force

SAN DIEGO, CALIF., Feb. 24, 2005 – The Royal Danish Air Force (RDAF) has become the first military to deploy a next-generation electronic warfare simulation system developed by the defense segment of Cubic Corporation (AMEX:CUB). The High Density Signal Simulator (HIDESS) accurately tests an aircraft’s ability to tackle practically all known radar threats that allied forces might face in actual combat.

Used for both training and receiver testing, HIDESS precisely generates a variety of radar signals – in real time – in a constantly changing threat environment. The equipment generates signals such as surface-to-air missiles, air-to-air and air-to-ground threats. These signals are injected into an aircraft’s actual radar warning receivers and flight software to evaluate the receiver’s performance.

The HIDESS system completed its formal acceptance tests last month and is now fully operational at the RDAF facility at Karup Air Base, Denmark.

“The Royal Danish Air Force identified a requirement for HIDESS when it upgraded its aircraft avionics system,” said Rick Dickson, Cubic Defense Applications (CDA) program director. “We are pleased that RDAF selected HIDESS to help validate their new EW avionics equipment. This will certainly increase pilots’ confidence in their ability to quickly and accurately identify and evade radar threats.”

The simulator provides a realistic environment where operators can learn to recognize multiple signals, including hostile, neutral and friendly radar signals. The system preserves the actual characteristics of both the radar signal and operational environment to ensure the highest level of realism and fidelity possible.

“HIDESS is modular and extremely flexible in adapting to particular user requirements,” said David Priester, CDA senior program manager at Cubic’s Warner Robins, Ga. facility. “The signal generators can replicate standard radar, communications or navigation signals, including pulse Doppler or continuous waveforms. Its unique design provides a crystal clear replication of the signals with minimal RF noise output.”

HIDESS comes packaged in a variety of configurations, including a standard HIDESS for the complete EW facility, a desktop system for laboratory use and a laptop configuration intended primarily for portable use.

The Cubic Defense Applications group, one of Cubic's two major segments, is a world leader in realistic combat training systems, mission support services and defense electronics. The corporation's other major segment, Cubic Transportation Systems, designs and manufactures automatic fare collection systems for public mass transit authorities.
