Cubic Receives $15 Million Contract to Supply
Data Link Equipment and
Services
for Joint STARS Program
SAN DIEGO,
Calif.—March 9, 2005--Cubic Defense Applications
(CDA), the defense segment of Cubic Corporation (AMEX:CUB),
announced it has received a five-year, Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite
Quantity (ID/IQ) contract with a maximum value of $15 million
from the U.S. Army’s Communications and Electronics
Command (CECOM). Under the contract, Cubic will supply hardware
and services for the Ground Data Terminals (GDT) that are
used in the Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System
(Joint STARS) program.
Cubic has already received a first order
for $2.9 million, for hardware, field support services,
and the establishment
of an equipment maintenance depot. The equipment and services
will be supplied to CECOM’s Logistics Readiness Center
at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey.
A cooperative U.S. Air Force and Army program,
Joint STARS was initially put into service during Operation
Desert Storm
in 1991. This sophisticated battle management system allows
air and ground commanders to look behind enemy lines and
obtain intelligence and targeting information. The radar
system can detect, classify and track movements of hostile
ground forces, including tracked and wheeled vehicles. Cubic’s
Surveillance and Control Data Link is a key component of
the system and provides a secure all-weather radio link between
JSTARS and multiple ground exploitation stations.
Cubic has continued its success in the Data
Links market, by developing products that meet the needs
of today’s
military intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR)
community. Its newest entry, the small, lightweight, DSP-driven
Tactical Common Data Link, is suitable for both manned and
unmanned reconnaissance platforms. Cubic is employing this
advanced CDL technology in the development of the U.S. Navy’s
next generation Communications Data Link System, which will
transfer intelligence data from ISR aircraft to analysts
in Navy ships and other surface locations.
The
Cubic Defense Applications group, one of Cubic Corporation’s
two major segments, is a world leader in realistic combat
training systems, mission support services and defense electronics.
The corporation's other major segment, Cubic Transportation
Systems, designs and manufactures automatic fare collection
systems for public mass transit authorities. For more information
