Cubic contract expanded to provide USMC advisor
training
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Jan. 10, 2007 – The defense segment of
Cubic Corporation (Amex: CUB) reported that its largest training
contract with the U.S. Marine Corps has been expanded to include training Marines
who will serve as military advisors to indigenous security
forces in
Iraq and Afghanistan.
Cubic started training the Marines in June after the
Program Manager for Training Systems (PM TRASYS) in Orlando approved
a modification to
Cubic’s Marine Air Ground Task Force Training Systems Support (MTSS)
contract. Awarded in 2003, the MTSS contract has a potential value of
$82 million over five years. As a result of the $3.4 million modification,
Cubic will now also support the U.S. Marine Corps’ Security Cooperation
Education and Training Center, SCETC, which is the organization
responsible for conducting advisor training.
Cubic is to train Marine Corps advisors in U.S. and foreign weapons,
convoy operations, offensive and defensive driving, vehicle maintenance
and recovery operations, tactical communications, Tactical Combat Casualty
Care (TCCC), and emergency lifesaving medical techniques.
Employees of Cubic’s Operations Support Division,
based in Hampton, Va., are currently conducting the advisor training
at Marine Corps Base
Quantico, Va., and the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center
(MCAGCC) at Twentynine Palms, Calif.
Cubic’s staffing of the SCETC program allows the Marine Corps
to reassign military personnel who previously supported advisor training
to perform other missions. The company’s initial team consists
of ten personnel at Quantico and two at Twentynine Palms.
The Quantico-based team provides course development, instruction, instructional
material
management and support services, and conducts advisor training
at both Quantico and Twentynine Palms. The Twentynine Palms team handles
operations
planning, scheduling and logistics support for the Quantico-based
instructors while they are operating at MCAGCC.
“This new contractual task represents an important expansion of
Cubic’s Marine Corps business,” said Len Supko, a retired
Marine Corps officer, who is Cubic’s program manager for USMC mission
support. “We are providing vital and relevant training to Marine
Advisor Teams, who will be working hand-in-hand with indigenous
forces to help restore security to Iraq and Afghanistan. These teams
will be
operating by themselves, which has really focused us to ensure
we provide them the best training packages we possibly can.”
Supko noted that Cubic has had a longstanding presence
in both Quantico and Twentynine Palms as the prime contractor for MAGTF
Training Systems
Support. Since 1998, Cubic has been supplying research, analysis,
planning and execution of realistic computer-based simulation training
for senior-level
Marine Corps’ commanders and their battle staffs at both locations,
as well as at Camp Pendleton, Calif.; Camp Lejeune, N.C.;
Camp Courtney, Okinawa, Japan; and Camp Smith, Hawaii. Cubic also provides
training
support to battalion and regimental staffs for combined arms
operations; and individual Marines needing instruction on USMC C4ISR
systems.
Cubic’s Operations Support Division is part of the Mission Support
Business Unit of Cubic Defense Applications (CDA). One of Cubic Corporation’s
two major segments, CDA is a world leader in realistic combat
training systems, mission support services and defense electronics.
The corporation's
other major segment, Cubic Transportation Systems, designs
and manufactures automatic fare collection systems for public
mass transit authorities.
