David R. Schmitz
President, Cubic Defense Systems
David R. Schmitz is president of the companies comprising our Cubic Defense Systems segment and a senior vice president of Cubic Corporation.
Previously he served as Cubic Defense Systems’ chief operating officer.
Before joining Cubic in July 2012, Schmitz held the position of vice president and general manager for Cobham Sensor System Microwave products.
Schmitz graduated from Harvard University with a Bachelor of Science degree in applied mechanics. He also holds a Master of Science degree in aeronautics and astronautics from Stanford University.
Raymond C. Barker
Executive Vice President and General Manager, Integrated Training Solutions
Raymond C. Barker is executive vice president and general manager responsible for the combat training systems and simulation systems businesses. Barker joined Cubic in November 1997, serving as vice president of Business Development. Barker’s technical expertise resides in electronics and electro-optics, and he has held direct contributing and managerial engineering positions during his career.
Prior to joining Cubic, he was group vice president of Business Development for Flight Systems Inc., TRACOR, Inc., in Austin, Texas. He previously served as vice president of Operations and Business Development for the firm. Barker also served as director of Business Development for the Electro-Optical Systems Division of Loral Corp. in Pasadena, CA. During his 10 years with Loral, he held increasingly responsible executive positions after starting with the firm in 1980. Barker also held a number of executive positions with the Electro-Optical Systems division of Xerox Corp. in Pasadena.
Michael L. Kelly
Vice President, Strategy and Development
Michael L. Kelly is vice president of Strategy and Development. He is responsible for strategic planning, acquisitions, market research, and development of long-term growth opportunities. His experience includes a variety of management positions in defense electronics, general management, international programs, technology transfer, joint ventures, and strategic planning.
Prior to his most recent assignment at Cubic, Kelly was president and chief executive officer of Cubic Advanced Tactical Systems, a joint venture between Cubic Defense Applications and Rafael Armament Development Authority Ltd. of Haifa, Israel. In prior assignments at Cubic, Kelly focused on international business development with emphasis on air combat, combat training centers and communications programs.
Before joining Cubic in 2002, Kelly held several management positions with SAIC including general manager of SAIC’s joint venture in Saudi Arabia. He previously served as vice president for Business Development for Advanced Electronics Company, Ltd, a Boeing/Northrop Grumman affiliate in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Earlier in his career, he was contracts manager for International Programs in the Westinghouse F-16 Avionics Division in Baltimore, Maryland.
Kelly holds a Master of Business Administration in finance from Loyola College, Baltimore, Maryland; Master of Arts in international relations from Schiller International University, Paris, France; and Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from McDaniel College, Westminster, Maryland.
Donald G. Jacobs
Executive Vice President and General Manager, Airborne Systems and Information Superiority
Donald Jacobs is executive vice president and general manager of Airborne Systems and Information Superiority, a core business area of Cubic Defense Systems. He is responsible for the company’s air test and training instrumentation system product lines, including day-to-day business operations, performance on existing government contracts, and execution of the strategic business plan for air range systems.
Jacobs has more than 35 years of experience in the design, development, and management of complex real-time test and training systems used by national aircrews worldwide. Prior to joining Cubic in 2000, Jacobs was vice president and general manager at Applied Data Technology Inc. (ADTI), a defense contractor providing range instrumentation products and services to domestic and foreign customers. He was one of the founding owners of ADTI and oversaw its growth from a small start-up company in 1988 until acquisition by Cubic in 2000.
Jacobs is a graduate of San Diego State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and computer science.
Vice President, Business Development
Anthony Verna is the Vice President of Business Development for Cubic Defense Systems. In this capacity he manages the worldwide Business Development department, focusing primarily on identifying, evaluating and pursuing business opportunities. Cubic is a leading provider of live and virtual training systems,and a specialized supplier of military electronics and information assurance solutions.
Verna is a full-performance executive with more than 22 years of progressive experience in national security and technology solutions for the Defense and Fed IT market. He has proven leadership, operational and business development expertise with over $1 billion in career competitive new business bookings and a demonstrated ability to energize growth.
Prior to joining Cubic, he was the key senior executive, responsible for strategic planning and organic growth that resulted in successful Private Equity-backed turn-around, transforming a small business Fed IT service provider into full and open specialized cyber solutions provider. He has also served as the vice president for Business Development and Capture Operations, as well as a division manager with a $100 million P&L, for a $1 billion/ year publicly traded national security-focused U.S. Government technology solutions provider.
Verna’s industry experience also includes senior executive positions with CACI/Paradigm Solutions Corporation, ManTech International and Northrop Grumman. He is an active participant in various industry associations including the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA).
Terry W. Kohl
Senior Vice President of Strategy Deployment
Terry Kohl is senior vice president of Strategy Deployment for Cubic Defense Systems. Kohl leads the successful deployment of Cubic's strategic initiatives and is responsible for priorities in the areas of innovation, capital allocation oversight, acquisition integration, business roadmaps and overall execution efficiencies.
Prior to joining Cubic, she held leadership positions of increasing responsibility at ECC International Corporation, a virtual simulation systems company acquired by Cubic in 2003. Her positions included managerial responsibility for contracts, business development, and program management. From 2003 through 2013, Kohl was the senior vice president and general manager of four Cubic divisions including the Simulation Systems Division, the Advanced Learning Solutions Division and the Range Design Solutions Divisions in the United Kingdom and Singapore.
Kohl is a graduate of University of Central Florida with a bachelor of science degree in computer science and a minor in business. She is a member of several industry associations including the National Infantry Association; the Association of the United States Army; the National Defense Industrial Association, which includes the division, Women in Defense (WID); the National Guard Association of the United States; and the Air Force Association.
